What can you do to help prevent a burglary on your property? Here are some ideas.
Make your property less attractive. This doesn’t mean we’re suggesting that your home should look like a dump. Instead, install some exterior lighting to brighten up points of entry, ensure that your doors are solid wood or metal, and post signs that indicate that you own a dog or security system, even if you really don’t.
Make your home look occupied. An overgrown lawn, a newspaper in the driveway, mail in the box, or other things like these can make your home seem vacant. Instead, we recommend building in some automation to your home during times when you’re away, so that the home looks lived in even if you’re not there. If you’re going to be away for some time, consider having a friend or neighbor housesit for at least part of the time.
