There’s a fairly simple act that some people do regularly that can eventually have a devastating impact on a property’s or even a city’s septic system – pouring grease down a drain. It can be tempting to do this as a quick way of cleaning up after cooking a delicious meal. But the fact is that even though the grease may start as a liquid, it will eventually meet up with colder temperatures, and then it’ll solidify and turn into a nasty trap for other objects that find their way down the drain.

For that reason, it’s important to avoid allowing any amount of fat or grease to make its’ way into your plumbing system. Instead, let the cooking grease cool naturally, leaving it in the open air for some time until it’s solid, or at least cool enough to touch, so that you can wipe it off into the trash.
