Rubber Washer Hoses vs Metal Braided Hoses

Originally published February 19, 2020 · Updated September 19, 2026

Washing machine supply hoses deserve attention because a leak can damage nearby floors, walls, and belongings. Inspect accessible hoses and connections for leaks, bulges, cracks, corrosion, or damage.

Rubber and braided supply hoses should be selected, installed, and replaced according to the washer and hose manufacturers’ instructions. A braided exterior does not make a hose immune to failure. Avoid relying on a universal lifespan claim; check the instructions for the specific product.

If a hose is damaged or leaking, stop using the washer and arrange repair or replacement. A qualified installer can confirm the correct hose type and connections, particularly when shutoff valves are difficult to operate or access.
